University of Virginia Center for politics and Hotline convened a panel of journalists and campaign staffers. The panel examined the “red state-blue state” phenomenon and the partisan polarization of America after the 2004 election. Among the issues they addressed were campaign strategies, predictions and assumptions made about the election outcome on election night, and media coverage of campaign issues. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.

Participants include Carl Cameron of Fox News Channel; Eleanor Clift of Newsweek; Chris LaCivita, an advisor to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth; Mike McCurry, a senior adviser with the Kerry-Edwards Campaign; Jack Oliver, deputy finance chairman for the Bush-Cheney campaign; and Susan Page of USA Today. Larry J. Sabato from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics moderated the discussion. close
