Pakistan’s new ambassador to the U.S. spoke about Pakistan-U.S. relations. He said that Pakistan is suffering from a change in strategic direction. It has opened communications with Afghanistan since the elimination of the Taliban. It also has entered into more open dialogue with India. He said that Pakistan now confronts extremist religious elements and has moved into international cooperation with its nuclear program. He hoped to prove that Pakistan has really changed in many ways and that other nations will be able to see these changes. He thanked the U.S. for financial aid and expressed the desire to continue working with the U.S. in international trade. After his speech the ambassador answered audience members' questions. close
