Myths of Free Trade

Representative Sherrod Brown (D-OH) talked about his book Myths of Free Trade: Why American Trade Policy Has Failed, published by New Press. He said American trade policy failed and blamed corporate lobbying and politicking as largely responsible for keeping the free trade notion alive. The book cited problems with free trade as evidenced by job opportunities that left his district in Ohio and moved across the border. Representative Brown also wrote about what he called the myths of free trade. He defined this as views that free trade fostered democracy and that free trade served as a vital component in the war on terror. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience gathered at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lyndhurst, OH. close
