The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars held an event on Women and the Iraqi Elections. Participants talked about the role of women in the Iraqi elections scheduled for the end of January 2005, mandatory participation of women as candidates, and challenges facing women wanting to participate in the political process. They also talked about the influence of Islam, traditional views of women, and special security concerns for women. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
