The Washington Supreme Court heard oral argument in Washington State Republican Party et al v. King County et al at the Temple of Justice in Olympia. The Washington State Republican party is suing Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed, the King County Records, Elections and Licensing Services Division, and the Washington State Democratic Central Committee over ballots King County previously invalidated and has now decided may be counted in the on-going hand recount of governor’s race ballots from the November 2, 2004 election.
A machine recount of nearly 3 million votes cast determined that Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi beat Democrat Christine Gregoire by 42 votes. Washington’s counties then started hand recounts on Wednesday, December 8th. King County encompasses Seattle. close
