Former Rep. Lee Hamilton (D) talked about the recommendations of the September 11 Commission acted upon by Congress, especially those involving the restructuring of the executive branch. He urged Congress to reform its institutions through rule changes now at the beginning of the 109th Congress. He also noted the creation of the position of Director of National Intelligence and of the National Counterterrorism Center, both of which will need congressional guidance. He recommended specific oversight committees to replace current weak, overlapping committees. Reps. Christopher Shays (R-Connecticut) and Carolyn Maloney (D-New York), co-chairs of the September 11 Commission Caucus, and family members of September 11 victims also talked about the need for congressional reform to streamline security. They also answered reporters' questions. close
