After meeting together, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov held a joint news conference. The secretary expressed sympathy to those who lost loved ones in the South Asian tsunami. He talked about terrorism, saying that the U.S. and Russia are committed to working together against extremism. He mentioned the January 30 elections in Iraq. The minister talked about U.S.-Russia relations, nuclear safety issues, and nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction. They both answered reporters' questions.
