Essie Mae Washington-Williams was interviewed about by the book she co-authored, Dear Senator: A Memoir by the Daughter of Strom Thurmond, published by Regan Books. Essie Mae Washington-Williams revealed that she was the daughter of the late Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC) following his death. She also was a former teacher in the Los Angeles school district.

The interviewer, Representative Harold Ford, Jr., represented the 9th district of Tennessee. He was the eldest son of former U.S. Representative Harold E. Ford and Dorothy Ford. close
