The Texas Young Lawyers Association sponsored a debate on civil rights policies in the 1990's. Former Secretary of Education and Director of National Drug Control Policy William Bennett argued affirmative action policies are as wrong as the discriminatory policies against minorities that existed in the U.S. for most of its history. Jesse Jackson, president of the National Rainbow Coalition, argued in favor of affirmative action policies that he said would be a positive way to include minorities into American economic and social life. close
