On Thursday, February 24, 2005, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) held a press conference in the Capitol, to discuss business before the Committee, including the judicial confirmation process. A few minutes after Senator Specter’s briefing, Judiciary Committee Member Senator Charles Schumer of New York also spoke in the Senate Gallery on a different topic, but responded in part to Chairman Specter’s remarks. Courts this week features the portions of both Senators' remarks on judicial nominees, including next week’s scheduled hearings on judicial candidates.

Also, Tuesday, February 22, 2005, former Solicitor General Theodore Olson received a Lifetime Service Award from the Federalist Society’s student chapter at Georgetown University Law Center. He spoke about recent Supreme Court cases involving personal property rights including eminent domain and file sharing issues. close
