Barbara Goldsmith was interviewed by Lynn Sherr about her book Obsessive Genius: The Inner World of Marie Cure, published by W. W. Norton and Company. Marie Curie grew up in Russian-occupied Poland and married scientist Pierre Curie, who helped her conduct the experiments that discovered radium, and radioactivity. Marie Curie also invented a mobile X-ray unit that her scientist daughter, Irene Joliot-Curie, who also won a Nobel Prize, operated. In the end, Marie, Pierre, and Irene were made fatally ill by their work with radioactive substances. close
