The Senate agreed to H.Con.Res. 175, providing for an adjournment of the House from June 27, 1991 to July 9, 1991 and an adjournment of the Senate at an undetermined time until July 8, 1991. The Senate continued consideration of S. 1241, to control crime and reduce violent crime. The Mitchell (D-ME) and Hatch (R-UT)/Thurmond (R-SC) amendments were adopted. The D’Amato (R-NY) amendment 382, to permit prosecutors to seek the death penalty if a firearm that has been transported through interstate commerce is used to commit a murder, was adopted, as was the Specter (R-PA) amendment 384, to require specific audits, and the Symms (R-ID) amendment 377, to impose capital punishment for drug-related homicides in the District of Columbia. The Helms Amendment 378, regarding race-related employment practices, was rejected. The Specter (R-PA) amendment 381 was pending. A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing for the consideration of certain amendments to be proposed to the bill. close
