Panelists discussed the topic, “Myth, Legend, History, and Truth: The Representation and Misrepresentation of Virginia Indians.” The panel was introduced by David Bearinger and moderated by Suzan Shown Harjo.

Camilla Townsend wrote Pocahontas and the Powhatan Dilemma: The American Portraits Series, published by Hill and Wang. Helen Rountree is an expert on the Algonquian-speaking Indians of the Southeast whose books include Pocahontas, Powhatan, Opechancanough: Three Indian Lives Changed by Jamestown, published by University Press of Virginia.
