The House had been called into a special Sunday session to act on this case involving a family dispute over Ms. Schiavo’s future. She remained hospitalized in a persistent vegetative state and several courts had issued orders to respect the husband’s claims that she would have wanted to invoke her right to die under such circumstances. close
