The participants announced the formation of a new organization, Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances, to seek congressional review of the most intrusive provisions of the Patriot Act. It was indicated that House and Senate Judiciary Committees will hold hearings about whether or not to extend the act. Topics included fighting terrorism, privacy, airline prescreening systems, federal government checks and balances, and search warrants. They called on President Bush to reconsider his unqualified endorsement of the Patriot Act. After their remarks, the participants answered reporters' questions. close
