“The Geneva Conventions and the Rules of War in the Post 9-11 and Iraq World” conference panel titled, “Role of Private Contractors in 21st Century War,” examined the role of private contractors in modern war and whether the Geneva Conventions should extend to civilians operating in support of military missions. Among the topics they addressed were past and existing provisions for civilians in war zones, incidents of prisoner abuse in Iraq and detainee treatment in Cuba, and potential guidelines for future conflicts. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
