Dr. Collins talked about his memoir Hot Lights, Cold Steel: Life, Death and Sleepless Nights in a Surgeon’s First Years, published by St. Martin’s Press. Dr. Collins, a practicing surgeon in Illinois, chronicled his past experiences at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Collins began his memoir during the first year of residency and ended it during his term as chief resident of the clinic. He also explained the lessons his patients had taught him throughout his medical career. Following his remarks he answered questions from members of the audience. close
