Candice Millard talked about her book The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey, published by Doubleday. Using archival pictures, Candice Millard detailed Theodore Roosevelt’s exploration of then uncharted territory throughout the Amazon rainforest toward the end of his life. The former president, along with four others, set out on this journey after he was defeated in the 1912 election. The author described the hardships they faced including starvation, disease, and a murder within the group. Ms. Millard explained that these challenges drove President Roosevelt to the brink of suicide. Following her presentation, the author responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
