The Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on steroid testing for athletes in professional sports. The hearing focused on H.R. 1862, the Drug Free Sports Act. The legislation would direct the Secretary of Commerce to issue rules requiring professional sports to adopt and enforce steroid drug testing policies. The subcommittee heard testimony on the proposed legislation from the commissioners of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. close
