The Rev. Cannon talked about his book Abu Ghraib: Reflections in the Looking Glass, published by Xulon Press. He was the brigade chaplain for the 800th Military Police Brigade while it was assigned to guard Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. He talked about the people involved in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the media coverage of the scandal. Mr. Cannon argued that what happened at Abu Ghraib was a reflection of the decline in ethics within American society as a whole. He said that the media had presented a very narrow picture of the events and had mislead the public into thinking that the problem lay within the military or with President Bush. Mr. Cannon also talked about the recent decision in the Lyndie England trial and the overall war in Iraq. After his remarks he responded to questions from members of the audience.
