Donny George, director of the national antiquities museum of Iraq, talked about the book The Looting of the Iraq Museum, Baghdad: The Lost Legacy of Ancient Mesopotamia, published by Harry N. Abrams. As Baghdad fell in April of 2003, the thin deployment of coalition forces made it impossible to protect cultural sites. This book recorded the loss of more than 15,000 pieces, only half of which have been recovered, from a major world museum. Mr. George also talked about the continuing looting of archeological sites. Milbry Polk, one of the editors of the book and a member of the National Arts Club, introduced him. After his discussion, he responded to audience questions. close
