Representative Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced legislation to amend section 215 of the Patriot Act, which deals with the federal government’s ability to obtain sales and lending records from bookstores and libraries. Following Rep. Sanders' remarks, the amendment was debated on the floor by members of the House of Representatives. The amendment eventually passed with the support of 199 Democrats and 38 Republicans. close
