Myrlie Evers-Williams and Manning Marable talked about the book they edited, The Autobiography Of Medgar Evers: A Hero’s Life and Legacy Revealed Through His Writings, Letters, and Speeches, published by Basic Civitas Books. They used the speeches, monthly reports to the NAACP, and personal notes and letters of the civil rights leader who was slain in 1963 to recreate a narrative of his life, including his involvement with voting rights for African Americans. Mr. Marable read excerpts from the book as he talked about the importance of Medgar Evers' life. Ms. Evers-Williams, the widow of Medgar Evers, talked about her life with him and responded to questions from members of the audience. During the event, both Mr. Marable and Ms. Evers-Williams stressed the importance of being active in politics and becoming familiar with current political figures. close
