Rep. Peterson talked about the Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Topics include details of the agreement, the stated benefits for both the United States and Central America, the concerns of labor groups about the agreement and why states that produce sugar are opposed to CAFTA. He talked about his opposition to CAFTA from the perspective of a state which includes a large number of sugar beet farmers. According to Rep. Peterson, his district has the most sugar production of any congressional district in the United States. Minnesota is the home of American Crystal Sugar Company. He responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
