He argued that the Social Security plan proposed by the Bush administration is ineffective and its reliance on privatization is dangerous. He said the present Social Security system is not in danger of running out of money in the next 75 years and that by changing the system the retirement income for individuals would diminish significantly. Mr. Hiltzik noted that the Social Security issue has been highly politicized and needs to be re-evaluated with a more objective, economic approach.
