Representative Curt Weldon talked about his book Countdown to Terror: The Top-Secret Information that Could Prevent the Next Terrorist Attack on America... and How the CIA has Ignored It, published by Regnery Publishing. Rep. Weldon makes the case that intelligence failures pre-9/11 led to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. He also writes that the same communication and information-processing difficulties within the intelligence agencies (CIA, FBI, NSA, and DIA) still exist and leave open the possibility for a major terrorist attack in the United States. Rep. Weldon, Vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, relied on a covert source code-named Ali to compile sensitive information about Iran’s nuclear weapons programs, insurgency efforts in Iraq, as well as Al Qaeda’s future planning efforts.
