Gareth Porter talked about his book Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam, published University of California Press. Mr. Porter argues that the U.S became involved in the Vietnam War as a step to achieve global dominance. Mr. Porter says that top advisers for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson were eager to go to war in order to exploit the U.S. military advantage over its rivals.
