Representative Conyers talked about the U.S. Patriot Act an congressional consideration of proposals to extend several provisions in the act. He opposed reauthorization of the Patriot Act in its current form, saying there were parts of the Act that had little to do with combating terrorism, that the bill did not give law enforcement officials meaningful tools to combat terrorism, and that the Administration had stepped on civil rights and civil liberties many times since passage of the Act in 2001. He responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
