Susan Glasser talked about the book she co-wrote with her husband, Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the End of Revolution, published by Scribner. Peter Baker and Susan Glasser were both Moscow bureau co-chiefs for the Washington Post for four years, during which time, they argue, Vladmir Putin tried to turn Russia back into an authoritarian state. In their book they write that Putin has repeatedly attempted to consolidate power and suppress his opposition. They described the loss of democracy through President Putin’s taking over the media, doing away with governorships, and taking over the Parliament. During this event, co-sponsored by Stacey’s Bookstore at the World Affairs Council, Susan Glasser talked about these and other matters such as the reactions of the Russian people and the future course of Russia. She responded to questions submitted by members of the audience. close
