Patricia Brady talked about her biography, Martha Washington: An American Life, published by Viking. She described Martha Washington as a decisive woman who contributed greatly to the character of America. In her book the author chronicles the life of the first First Lady from the beginning of her relationship with George Washington to her dedication to her him during the Revolutionary War period. Ms. Brady discussed the prevalent misconceptions about Martha Washington such as a reconstruction of her appearance as a young woman, her timidity, and her business ability. Other topics included her many suitors, her marriage, the books she liked, her children, and her actions during the Revolution. She responded to questions from members of the audience. close
