John Cox talked about his book Climate Crash: Abrupt Climate Change and What It Means for Our Future, published by Joseph Henry Press. He writes that changes in global climate are occurring at a rate much faster than had previously been estimated by scientists. He discusses these changes and their potential effects on humanity as well as the rest of the natural living world. The author contends that such climate changes have the possibility of occurring within a single human lifetime and writes about the changes scientists are making in order to prepare themselves for a major climate shift in a minimum amount of time. Mr. Cox also looks at the ways in which scientists have examined our past to discover instances of rapid climate changes in the Earth’s history. He talked about the significance of small changes in climate and the speed at which they can occur. He illustrated his talk with slides and answered questions from members of the audience. close
