Ms. Hakakian talked about her memoir Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran, published by Crown and released in paperback from Three Rivers Press. The book deals with her life as a young woman in Iran during the Iranian Revolution and the deposing of the Shah in 1979. She fled Iran for Europe seeking political asylum, eventually landing in New York in 1985. She described the changes that took place during and after the Iranian revolution and her experiences as a student during the period. She read excerpts from her book and answered questions submitted by members of the audience. close
