The 2005 National Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Conference was held to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the signing of the first Presidential Executive Order on HBCUs which established a program to overcome the effects of discriminatory treatment and to strengthen and expand the capacity of historically black colleges and universities to provide quality education.

Keynote speaker Secretary Spellings as well as Ambassador Spearman, students, and presidents of black colleges discussed the government’s role in the future of predominantly black colleges. They also spoke about HBCU actions during the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. After they talked, they responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
