Dirk Wales talked about his children’s book A Lucky Dog: Owney, U.S. Rail Mail Mascot, published by Great Plains Press. Owney became the rail mascot for the U.S. Post Office after taking shelter inside the Albany, N.Y. post office in 1887. During the event, held at the National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C., Mr. Wales read from his book about Owney and discussed how and why he became interested in the dog. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience. close
