Outside of the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing room, Senator Schumer and hearing witnesses spoke to reporters about United States Supreme Court nominee Judge John Roberts.

Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Abigail Thernstrom criticized the Democratic attitude during the hearings, saying that they should have attended more of the hearings. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) discussed the nominee’s responses to questions about such issues as privacy. He felt that Judge Roberts' answers were insufficient. Following his remarks, Senator Schumer responded to questions from reporters. close
