The Rev. Jerry Falwell, former Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham, syndicated columnist Robert Novak, and former Louisiana Rep. Bob Livingston were among those seen at the opening reception. A tribute video, which included members of the North Carolina Republican Party, was shown to begin the program. Participants spoke about Senator Helm’s life and influence during his terms as a North Carolina Senator. Also shown were video presentations from President George W. Bush and James Dobson, neither of whom were in attendance.
