Betsy Hart talked about her book It Takes a Parent: How the Culture of Pushover Parenting Is Hurting Our Kids -and What to Do About It, published by Putnam, at the Conservative Women’s Network lunch sponsored by the Luce Policy Institute at the Heritage Foundation. Betsy Hart argues that today’s “parenting culture” is harmful to children. In her book she explains that listening to the advice of family experts have led parents to stop disciplining unacceptable behavior and to pass the responsibility of decision-making off to their children. Ms. Hart, a single mother of four children, asserts that this type of parenting encourages children to be selfish and prevents them from growing into healthy adults. She answered questions from members of the audience. close
