Following a meeting with Energy Department officials, President Bush spoke to reporters about petroleum supplies and distribution in the wake of the devastation by both Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region. He said that he had authorized further releases form the National Strategic Petroleum Reserves, encouraged Americans to conserve fuel where possible, and talked about the potential for price increases and energy shortages in the near future. He also answered questions from the reporters. close
