The Military's Role in Disaster Relief The Heritage Foundation hosted a panel discussion on “The Military’s Role in Disasters: What’s the Right Answer?” Participants discussed the efficacy of the Posse Comitatus Law that prohibits the Pentagon from conducting domestic law enforcement. Members of the panel said how amending the legislation to grant federal troops greater authority in restoring order along the Gulf Coast would be a mistake.
