Andrew Jackson: A Life and Times Professor Brands talked about his book Andrew Jackson: His Life and Times. In his book, the author discussed the life and presidency of Andrew Jackson. He followed President Jackson from his rebellious youth to his experience as the first “common man” to be president. Mr. Brands explained Andrew Jackson’s dedication to securing the Union’s uncertain future and offered insight into the era in which he lived. He discussed the two fundamental flaws in the U.S. Constitution, sovereignty and slavery, and President Jackson’s handling of the nullification issue in South Carolina. Following his presentation, Mr. Brands responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
