Doris Kearns Goodwin was interviewed about her life and work. The author spoke about her work with President Lyndon B. Johnson, the impact of historical events, and life as a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. She also responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail.

During the program, photographs and illustrations from her books were shown. Video footage was shown, including the announcement by President Lyndon B. Johnson that he would not seek another term, and portions of an interview with the author at her home in Concord, Massachusetts.
