Professor Yamashita talked about his book Leaves from an Autumn of Emergencies: Selections from the Wartime Diaries of Ordinary Japanese, published by University of Hawaii Press. He translated diary entries written by Japanese citizens during World War II. The author explained that he chose diaries kept by a Tokyo housewife, an elderly businessman, a teenager, and a member of the army to portray life on the home front. Professor Yamashita showed photograph slides during his presentation. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
