Bruce Chadwick was interviewed about his book The First American Army: The Untold Story of George Washington and the Men Behind America’s First Fight for Freedom, published by Sourcebooks. The book tells the story of what it was like to serve during the Revolutionary War from the journals and letters of the soldiers. Mr. Chadwick compared and contrasted the Continental Army with the modern military. He also discussed the lives of individual troops in the American Revolution. Edward Lengel interviewed Mr. Chadwick.

Bruce Chadwick, Ph.D., lectures in American history at Rutgers University while also teaching writing at New Jersey City University. He is a former journalist and the author of five other historical books: [George Washington’s War: The Forging of a Revolutionary Leader and the American Presidency; Brother against Brother: The Lost Civil War Diary of Lt.
