Republican leaders spoke to reporters about the call made earlier in day by Minority Leader Reid for a special closed session of the Senate. They characterized the action as a “stunt” designed to focus attention on the recent indictments of a White House official and the state of a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation into the use of intelligence data prior to U.S. military action rather than the regular business of the Senate. They also complained about the manner in which the call for the session was made without prior notification. Following their remarks they answered questions from reporters.

Senator Frist was visibly angry in his comments, saying that the Senate had been “hijacked” by the minority and that he could no longer trust Senator Reid. close
