Saving The Reagan Presidency
David Abshire talked about his book Saving The Reagan Presidency: Trust Is the Coin of the Realm, published by Texas A and M University Press. In the book the author recounted his involvement in the Iran-Contra affair. In 1987, the Reagan administration asked Ambassador Abshire, then the Ambassador to NATO, to serve in President Reagan’s cabinet as Special Counselor while President Reagan was being investigated for the sale of arms to Iran in exchange for freeing American hostages. The author detailed his private meetings with President Reagan and how he handled the task of restoring the president’s credibility as a leader. Following his presentation, Ambassador Abshire responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
