Members of Parliament debated legislation drafted in response to London transit system bombings earlier in the year. The legislation called for an expansion of investigative powers by law enforcement, including the detention of terror suspects for 90 days. The bill was defeated over the support of Prime Minister Blair with 49 members of his party voting against it. close
