At the beginning of the program, a three-minute clip was shown from coverage of President Bush’s trip to Asia by the state sponsored China Central Television.
Mr. Pei, who had just returned from Beijing where he met with experts in the region, spoke about relations between the United States and China. He discussed President Bush’s trip to Asia and the president’s call for democratic reform in China. He also talked about the Chinese government’s release of its “white paper” on the topic of democracy in the country. Mr. Pei responded to questions and comments from viewers.
