The Warren Newport Public Library Non-Fiction book group met to discuss Bob Greene’s book Once Upon a Town: The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen, published by Perennial. Mr. Greene’s book tells the story of North Platte, Nebraska, a town of 12,000 that played host to six million servicemen who passed through North Platte on troop trains during World War II. The North Platte Canteen provided refreshments, entertainment, and company for servicemen during their trains' 10-minute stops in North Platte. Ms. Hoffman moderated the discussion.
