Representatives Shaw and Becerra, both members of the Ways and Means Committee, spoke about the alternative minimum tax and long-term tax policy. The previous day the House passed (by a vote of 414 to 4) H.R. 4096, the Stealth Tax Relief Act of 2005. This extends for one year the higher Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) exemption amounts enacted in 2003 and adjusts these amounts for inflation to protect their value. The extension would prevent the taxes of many middle-income families from being raised. The representatives responded to questions and comments from viewers. close
