The Brookings Institution, in conjunction with The Help Group of Los Angeles and others, held a conference to examine policy proposals for expanding the availability and affordability of early intervention for autism spectrum disorders. Mr. O’Hanlon and Dr. Firestone gave the introductory remarks. Then, a recorded message from Senator Clinton was shown.

Moderated by Dr. Insel, experts discussed on the nature of autism spectrum disorders. Using charts and graphs, the panelists individually spoke on topics including federal research efforts, the history of autism, myths of the disease, and the increase in prevalence of autism. Following their discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Dr. Insel moderated the panel. close
